Monday had a fiery sunset... reds & oranges & a copper sun...
Small wonder then, that we had a copper moon...
monday 17th, 22:06
I saw the first sliver of the new moon, low in the sky on saturday; absolutely gorgeous, a slight haze of cloud, her full shape just visible behind her tiny crescent... but by the time I'd dashed in for my camera, it was too late. I was prepared on sunday though....
sun 16th, 21:35
If you click to enlarge.... that tiny dot in the lower right is Venus... at this time of year, in the northern hemisphere she is "The Evening Star", shining bright in the west...
sun, 23:15
An hour later the moon was deliciously copper as it sank lower in the sky in the west... but I was quite taken aback at the speed of it disappearing... how the sun's light visibly faded & shrank... Have you ever watched a moon-set? I've watched the low morning full moon's disappear before, still lit by the rising sun when I've been lucky to be out at the right time...
The moon's path has followed the sun over the horizon the last few days, and I burnt the midnight oil to follow Monday's moon-set, determined to get a decent photo... until you are behind a camera, you don't realise how the light changes in 15minutes, never mind an hour... every time i went out i had to adjust, even though to the naked eye the moon looked the same...
monday 23:42
tues 00:19
The last one wasn't as successful, even sharpened up... there were some wisps of cloud & the reflected light had nearly faded altogether... vanishing just a few moments later...
I know, if you search for photos of the moon there's nearly a couple of million results, but these are special to me... my first successful new-moon shots with a fair amount of detail, without having to do a load of editing... and a coppery red moon too...

I am glad that one of us has seen a coppery moon! These show again the wonders of our universe. Thanks for sharing!
I love your blog. It soothing and calming. I can sense tranquility in the descriptive words you use.
Thanks for the visit. As I have plenty of distraction at the moment, I tried to follow your kind advice. I still could not work it out after consulting the Help Forum.
I'll do it one at a time. I never have this problem before.
Thanks for showing me your kind concern.
am speechless.. these are just WoW! x
Wonderful! I wish my moon shots came out that nicely.
They are great Suzi and you are right - anything that we labour on and enjoy the results of holds significance for us if not for anyone else. 99.9% of my shots I think are meaningful only to me.
happy days
Oh I just remembered, years ago we were driving at night to another holiday town when one of the kids woke up, looked out the car window and in an indignant voice said,
Who took a bite out of the moon?
S We are moving into winter over here so the sun and moon are setting further south. It is a great time of the year to occassionally wake to a full moonset. Over three nights it sets at 3, 4 and 5am. On clear mornings it just lights up our bedroom. Quite special. Thanks for sharing your moon shots - clear and cool.B
Mmm, I have been obsessing a bit(lot) this past month... Glad others can get some pleasure from it too!
Love the crescent moon shot. I have tried so many times to get good moon photos and almost never succeeded. You got a beauty there.
